This is a comprehensive writing course geared for grades 6-8. We have used IEW for three years and love it! Here’s a bit about this curriculum.
About IEW
Structure and Style for Students is a comprehensive writing course. It is easy to use and understand for both teachers and students. I found this helpful when we began using IEW materials four years ago. This curriculum helped my daughter gain confidence in her writing skills.
Consumable Curriculum
In the past, we have used IEW’s theme-based writing lessons, and we loved it so much! If you are familiar with those lessons, Structure and Style is very similar. However, rather than using theme-based lessons, each unit changes. The workbook is consumable. Methods and format stay the same but the stories and templates change.
Digital Curriculum
The curriculum has a DVD option available. These DVDs are very helpful for the teacher to review the material prior to teaching the student. At this level, the students may also find it helpful to watch the lessons.
Writing Foundation
This curriculum focuses on using foundational grammar principles, and applies them to writing. Children are often frustrated when they approach writing. This is usually because they have no idea how to access their creativity.
Rather than continue in frustration, children learn how to find keywords and themes, and create an outline from them. Students create an outline from a simple paragraph and eventually work their way up to writing a paper from research.
